Yep, that's right: CK was on the radio!
On Saturday, July 23rd, I spent time in the Round Rock Express radio booth, talking baseball with my father-in-law, Mike Capps ("Voice of the Round Rock Express"), and former MLB player Matt Kata.
I'm not going to lie -- this was intimidating! Podcasting is very different from a live radio broadcast. Jenny is our podcast editor and she's really good at making us (me) sound like I know what I'm talking about. But me, live, on-air? Talking baseball? 😬
Cappy is a play-by-play caller; it's a fantastic skill to be able to call the game and carry on a conversation at the same time. Cappy's been at this for years -- he's called 3000 games -- but that doesn't make it any less complicated! To help me ease into my first go at being on the radio, I spent the first two innings of the game just listening to Cappy and Matt Kata balance play-by-play and color commentary.
When it was my turn to chime in, I had to work on giving Cappy the time and space to describe the game to the listeners. It took a little while to get the hang of things, but when I did, I started to really enjoy myself!
You'll get to hear snippets of my conversation with Cappy and Kata on an upcoming episode of CK & GK.
Until next time!
